Unfortunately this is not going to be one of the funny –put down the movie– reviews (dang it!). This is another movie by M. Night Shyamalan, the guy who did “The Sixth Sense” and “Unbreakable.” Those are great movies with GREAT endings that leave you nearly speechless by the end. If you haven’t seen both of those, then go and see them. This of course set the precedent very high for “Signs,” but I’m happy to report that this movie is one of the best movies that I have ever seen. The movie, starring Mel Gibson, begins with the discovery of, you guessed it, a crop circle in the middle of his corn field. The eeriness is established right off the bat and climaxes in a more shocking way than I could have imagined. Shyamalan’s method of suspense storytelling is like nothing that I have ever seen or experienced. The amazing amount of symbolism in the movie puts one in awe of this man’s talent. One of the surprising things about this film is the fact that there is a good amount of humor. You laugh at times, getting some relief from the absolutely chilling moments. You must be warned, this movie can have a strong after effect. It’s one of those movies that really effects you psychologically and will make you think for a while. This is an amazing movie, a work of art.
