LEGACY POST: Scott’s Take

This is one of the most absurd, yet funny, things that I’ve ever read in a newspaper. That freak, Doug Peake (a teacher at Paloma Valley High School, the school I went to), somehow plays off his inability to teach by goofing off all the time and calling it learning. I mean, learning should be fun yes, but this freak is a screw off, and gets away with it! I was in his Spanish III class and it was a freakin’ joke; I learned NOTHING! Just look at his picture, this guy is weird! His main focus the year that I was in his class was to get the inside of his room painted with clouds on the ceilings and a picture of his motorcycle on the wall. He was always too busy buying and selling stuff on eBay to even do anything for us in class. What a load of crap. Ha, and John Gray having a quote in his support is not saying much, that guy is a goof off too. I mean, who would trust a male flute player anyway?

Overweight Man Receives ‘Lose Weight Fast’ Spam E-Mail Featuring His Picture
HOUSTON – Jim Funderburke, a 240-pound accountant, was surprised to find a photo of himself in a spam e-mail for a weight-loss product Monday. “That’s the last time I post vacation pictures on my web site,” said Funderburke, 38, gazing at an unflattering image of himself in a bathing suit. “I’d like to be able to check my messages without seeing myself used as the online embodiment of obesity and overindulgence.” Funderburke also expressed a wish to water his lawn without neighborhood teenagers calling him “Before Dude.” -The Onion

LEGACY POST: Scott’s Take

Absurdity is the only word that even begins to describes this crap: Latino critics are claiming that Star Wars Episode 2 has major racial stereotyping. They claim that the clone army, modeled on bounty hunter Jango Fett (who apparently appears to be Latino), toys with American paranoia about Mexican immigration with its cloned army of swarthy lookalikes who march in lockstep by the tens of thousands. That is one of the craziest things I’ve ever heard! For one thing, the actor that plays Jango Fett is from New Zealand! It’s quite amusing though when you realize that the planet that they are made on is called Kamino… They also claim that his kid, the soon to be Boba Fett, appears to be even more Latino. The great part is that some Arab association claims that Boba Fett appears to be Arab, and that him calling his father Baba (which apparently means “Father” in Arab) is stereotyping Arabs as some kind of evil clone army. So, what we have is two different ethnicities that both want to claim racial stereotypes on the same character, does it get any better than this? And I can just hear the complaints if the movie didn’t include some racial diversity: “Our whiny, never satisfied minority is underrepresented in your stupid movie!” No matter what you do you can’t win with some people. Obviously this is a build off of the whole Jar Jar Binks Rastafarian stereotype. While we’re at it, I can come up with a few of my own: You know those Trade-Federation guys, they sure seem to have some Asian-Oriental undertones; and Darth Vader, he stereotypes people with asthma as being bad; and Anakin being played by Hayden Christiensen, he characterizes whites as whiny, bratty teenagers; and the term “Dark Side,” it associates the color black with evil things. Barf.

Bad News
This is very sad.

LEGACY POST: Scott’s Take

FBI memos that were never delivered, warnings of attack on memorial day and July 4th, daily Palestinian suicide bombings, serious attempts by the US to ‘democratize’ Russia. There are so many amazing and crazy things going these days that its no wonder that daytime talk shows are dying, the drama just doesn’t compare anymore. Its also no wonder that Americans are flocking to movies like never before, it’s an escape. Spider-Man and Episode II alone have pulled in $400 million since their release. Things are only going to continue to get more and more interesting in the foreseeable future. It’s an interesting time…

Christian Weightlifter Bends Iron Bar To Show Power Of God’s Love
TULSA, OK – Before 11,000 attendees at a “He Is Risen Rally” at Mabee Center, Christian weightlifter Michael Brighton bent a two-inch-thick iron bar Monday, clearly demonstrating the power of God’s love within the heart and body of His followers. “Do you see the power of faith and belief?” said the 255-pound Brighton following the impressive feat of spiritual prowess. “Only a strong personal relationship with my Creator could have made this possible.” Brighton went on to demonstrate God’s hatred of ice blocks and wooden boards.

Ads and Abs, that’s what it’s all about today. First, as you know, online ads, in all their splendor, are on the rise. According to Charles Buchwalter, this is a good thing. I’m not so sure I’m happy about them, but whatever. Second, you know those ab-stimulator devices that are supposed to give you a six-pack instantly, well, they don’t. That’s right, all our suspicions have been confirmed, they don’t work. Check out this article about the FTC taking action against these companies, it’s good for a laugh.

LEGACY POST: Movie Reviews, Scott’s Take

Movie Reviews
This is good stuff….

Star Wars: Episode II

Pretty good, much better than Episode I, still cheesy dialogue. To sum it up in two sentences:
- Yoda is Hilarious (not really in a good way).
- Natalie Portman is way hot.

Spiderman

Better than Episode II, cool effects. Recommended.

So there I was…
trying to figure out what to do about this summer school idea. I got the info that I will be able to take classes because I will get the money to do it. I decided that I wanted to do it, the only question was what classes I was going to take: Engineering? Math? Physics? I just couldn’t figure it out. Then it came to me! So I think that that is what I’m going to do. It’s all part of my master plan now.

Scott’s Take
This is a very interesting article to me because it brings up the controversy over turnitin.com. You might not know what this website is, but UCI has had us turn our papers into it this quarter.

Want to know what type of person you are? Well this website claims that by selecting colors it can determine what type of personality you are. Try it out, it’s kind of fun.

This is SO freakin’ awesome. You like robots right? You like soccer right? Well, check this out! A UCI guy was awarded a National Medal of Science, too bad UCSD wasn’t on the list!

Of course everyone knows that Intel has released their new Pentium 4 at 2.53 3gHz (or at least I THINK everyone knows). The thing that is good about this though, is the price drop that they are doing on older processors. Intel processors have always been really expensive (thus I have an AMD processor), but they have been very dependable. To see them dropping prices, and even offer a Celeron for less than $90 is going to be very beneficial to the market. Even though you don’t care, things are going to be very interesting in the processor industry as we approach the end of the year. The article is informative, but dumb because AMD is still at the top of my list. “AMD for Life!”

LEGACY POST: Scott’s Take

So busy I’ve been. I’ve read a few interesting things this week, and I wanted to share them. The saddest news of all is the news that Will Ferrell is leaving SNL. I guess its okay though since he is going to start making movies, and I think he is funny in his movies too. This technology report about a new type of battery monitor I found very interesting. That is some very cool, and useful technology. Here is a report that projects that computer games are going to outsell music by 2005! Isn’t it crazy that computer games are getting that big! It says that 56% of the current players are 25-44 years old. Another cool piece of information: the PlayStation 3 is under development. The technology that they are putting into that thing is crazy. They said that they want to out pace Moore’s law with the processor for that thing! Very cool. Just in case you’ve really been in a cave, this is important news concerning pipe bombs that have been planted in people’s mailboxes recently. Well those were just things that I found interesting. In case you have free time, check this out too!

LEGACY POST: Scott’s Take (New Name)

Okay, this is the coolest thing in the news. The Hubble Space Telescope is back up and running again after getting fitted with new lenses and stuff, and the new pics are even more amazing than anyone expected. They are so colorful! I was going to put a couple of other items in here, but I think that I want to keep this thing brief. You can look at this story if you want though. It is the annual “State of the Air” rankings, and, just as you’d expect, almost all the smog offenders are in California. The little map is the best because there is this nice little string of red dots through the middle of CA.

LEGACY POST: The News

In order to keep you up to date on the events of the world, I’m going to start a new item on the site. It will be called “Important News Item” and it will obviously be a reflection of something that I feel is an important issue. As I come across these “important items” I will post them here under the heading “Important News Item” (in case you couldn’t figure that out). The first of this series follows:

Important News Item!

I don’t know if you saw the Grammy Music Awards this year, but in the middle the president of the association, Michael Greene, someone I loath, gave a big schpiel about music copyrights and downloading music and stuff. This is just one of the guys at the top of a large media company or association who likes to think that having TOTAL AND COMPLETE control over the music we listen to is for our good. HE is one of the reasons Britney Spears keeps making CRAP CDs. Anyway, to the point, he apparently resigned over the weekend due to disagreements with the board he is over. The thing they don’t say, and what I believe to be true, is that he was probably ousted due to his foolish beliefs and lectures to everyone in the world about copyright infringement. This doesn’t mean someone won’t take his place that has the same beliefs, but its funny that he left. The crappy part is that he is getting millions as severance pay!
